Growth
and Emigration of White Shrimp, Litopenaeus
vannanei, in the Mar Muerto Lagoon, Southern
Mexico
C.E.
Medina-Reyna
Abstract
Microcohorts of white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei,
were sampled with a cast net at fortnightly intervals
in the Mar Muerto Lagoon, Southern Mexico. Shrimp
recruited to the lagoon throughout the sampling
period (January to August 1993). Mean growth rates
of microcohorts ranged from 0.21 to 1.21 mm total
length (TL) per day. Juvenile shrimp mainly between
the sizes of 70 to 80 mm TL emigrated from the
lagoon. Growth and the onset of emigration appeared
to be related to water salinity..

A
Database for the Industrial Trawl Fishery of Côte
d'Ivoire
F.
Menard, J.Hoëpffner, V. Nordström, T. Joanny and
J. Konan
Abstract
Fishery statistics for the industrial trawl fishery
of Côte d’Ivoire have been well documented since
1968. However, data processing has changed significantly
with time and some of the data files have been
lost. In 1997, the Centre de Recherches Océanologiques
d’Abidjan decided to retrieve and process all
trawl data available from different sources. This
paper gives an overview of the database covering
the period 1968 to 1997 and describes its coverage,
format, structure and use. The database was developed
using MS ACCESS® and is a powerful tool for storing
information about this fishery, and for analysis
of its dynamics over a period of 30 years.
